JTA was found in 1975 as a public association authorized by Minister of Construction and Minister of Transportation and has 300 corporate members and 2,153 individual members. (As of March, 2003.) The aim of JTA is to contribute to the preservation of land, the development of infrastructures and the improvement of welfare by promoting research on the planning, design, construction and maintenance of tunnels. JTA is the national organization from Japan to International Tunnelling Association. |

The main activities of JTA are; 1) Study of tunnelling technology on the preparatory investigation, design, construction and maintenance. 2) Study of safety on tunnel construction 3) Study of protection of environment influenced by tunnelling project 4) Study on tunnelling machineries 5) Study of standardization on contract of tunnel project 6) Planning and management of conference and event on tunnelling 7) Contribution to ITA by dispatching members to General Assembly, Working Groups and Technical Sessions of the ITA Congress and by cooperating with the other activities of ITA 8) Collection of tunnelling information in the world 9) International cooperation on tunnelling technology 10) Publication of technical journals JTA has some standing committees, sub-committees and task forces to fulfill the above-mentioned activities. |
